Venezuela is on alert red, Argentina is hitting bottom, Mexico has Fox in the target, Colombia is terrified, Peru is protesting and Israel never has peace. With this international panorama, our news is unfortunately sad. Above all, bear in mind that the shadow of the U.S., our country, is involved in all these conflicts.

In Venezuela the American government has meetings with the opposition days before the coup d'etat. In turn the Argentine government asks for helps from the International Monetary Fund. (The United States is the main shareholder of the IMF so, without its support, it is very difficult for the institution to grant economic aid to this country in a moment as critical as this.)

The problems in Chiapas continue and economic interests are always in the background. Peruvians follow the dictatorship of their president’s populist proclamation in the electoral campaign where he takes justice into his own hands. And Colombia continues to be pressured from here, with Powell throwing harsh criticisms against this country where the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) rebels utilize the demilitarized zone that Pastrana ceded to the guerrillas in 1998.

And of Israel we will say that it would be necessary to ask to the Jewish multimillionaires who live in New York.

It is much too rare, strange, unusual that the good ones are always cowboys who, in matters of international politics, never make mistakes. To a lesser degree in the other countries, errors in international politics are continuous and all the press echo each other but curiously, here, all is well, nothing ever happens and we are always the good one. It is rare, unusual and, I insist, curious. At least we still have doubt since we may never know the truth.
